Thunder’s Ajay Mitchell did not stutter about ‘killer’ who delivered final blow to Lakers

On Monday evening, the Oklahoma City Thunder punched their ticket to a second straight Western Conference Finals with a narrow road win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of their series. The Thunder are now 8-0 in these playoffs, made even more impressive by the fact that the majority of the games have come without All-Star Jalen Williams.

In his absence, Ajay Mitchell has stepped up in a huge way, scoring 28 points on 12-19 shooting in the Game 4 win, but after the game, Mitchell instead put the spotlight on teammate Chet Holmgren.

“He’s a killer. That’s his biggest strength — every time he goes out there, he’s trying to kill,” said Mitchell, per Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.

Holmgren indeed put on a big performance in Game 4, scoring 16 points, including the game-winning basket on a dunk following what many Lakers fans thought was a travel, in the closing seconds.

Holmgren was a force throughout this series, and arguably had the most consistent performance for Oklahoma City as a whole in this matchup, especially considering the fact that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s numbers dipped with the slew of double and triple-teams that Los Angeles sent his way.

The Thunder are now officially the first team in nine years to have swept their way to the conference finals, having dispatched the Phoenix Suns in a four-game sweep in the first round, and they will now have some well-earned time off to sit back and watch the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs battle it out in their second round matchup, which is currently tied at 2-2.

Game 5 of that series is set for Tuesday evening back in San Antonio.
