TCU Horned Frogs’ leading scorer to test transfer portal waters
The TCU Horned Frogs are set to lose a primary contributor from their 2025-26 roster, as sophomore forward David Punch plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal following a breakout season in Fort Worth.
Punch, a 6-foot-7, 246-pound power forward, started all 34 games this past season and led the Horned Frogs in multiple statistical categories. He averaged a team-best 14.1 points per game while shooting 50.3% from the field, along with 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per contest. His all-around production earned him All-Big 12 Honorable Mention recognition.
Over two seasons at TCU, Punch appeared in 66 games with 61 starts, finishing with career averages of 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. His sophomore campaign demonstrated a transformative step forward, particularly on the defensive end and as a primary scoring option.
Punch put up some of his best performances late in the season. In the Big 12 Tournament, he averaged 25 points on 58.6% shooting, along with 8.5 rebounds and three blocks across two games. He carried that momentum into the NCAA Tournament, recording a double-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks in a 66-64 first-round win over Ohio State, clinching the Horned Frogs’ first tournament victory since 2023. However, his production dipped in the second round against the Duke Blue Devils, where he was limited to four points on 1-of-10 shooting in an 81-58 loss that ended TCU’s season.
A former four-star recruit from Harker Heights, Texas, Punch was ranked as the No. 6 player in Texas and the No. 108 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He originally chose the Horned Frogs over programs like the NC State Wolfpack and Penn State Nittany Lions.
Punch becomes one of many TCU players entering the portal this offseason, joining Jace Posey, RJ Jones, Bugg Edwards, Kayden Edwards, Ashton Simmons, and Liutauras Lelevicius. With two years of eligibility remaining, he is expected to draw high interest nationwide.
