Dolphins release cornerback as preseason continues

The Miami Dolphins made another roster move Saturday morning, releasing veteran cornerback Nick McCloud as the team continues its preseason preparations.

Sun Sentinel reporter David Furones shared the transaction on X, formerly known as Twitter, hours before Miami’s second preseason matchup against the New York Giants.

“Dolphins released cornerback Nick McCloud,” Furones wrote.

The move comes after the Dolphins held a difficult joint practice with the Giants earlier this week. Miami will have an opportunity to respond when it faces New York on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on NFL Network.

McCloud, 28, has bounced around the league since making his NFL debut with the Giants in 2022. The veteran defensive back later spent time with the San Francisco 49ers in 2024 before playing for the Chicago Bears during the 2025 season.

Across his four-year NFL career, McCloud has appeared in 61 games and recorded 123 tackles, including 87 solo and 36 assisted. He has also totaled 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and 12 passes defended.

McCloud has additionally recorded 4.5 stuffs for four yards and one blocked kick, providing experience on both defense and special teams during his NFL career.

His release comes as roster competition continues to intensify during the preseason. With final cuts approaching, Miami will continue evaluating its secondary and overall roster before determining its initial 53-man group for the 2026 season.
