Storm reunite with reserve guard after Mystics stint
On Sunday, the Seattle Storm signed guard Jade Melbourne to a one-year contract worth $500,000, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. The 23-year-old returns to Seattle with the move, having originally joined the franchise in 2023 after being selected in the third round of the 2022 WNBA Draft.
Melbourne spent the last two seasons with the Washington Mystics, where her role expanded greatly. In 2025, she played a career-high 23.4 minutes per game across 43 appearances, including 12 starts, averaging 5.9 points and 2.9 assists. Over her two-year stint in Washington, she recorded 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 80 games.
During her initial run with the Storm in 2023, Melbourne appeared in 29 games and averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 39.1% from the field and 15% from beyond the arc. She was later traded to the Mystics ahead of the 2024 season in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick, and went on to shoot a career-best 35.7% from three-point range while averaging 5.4 points and hitting 43.4% of her shots from the field.
Melbourne has built a deep international resume. The 5-foot-10 guard has played six seasons with the UC Capitals in Australia’s WNBL, most recently averaging 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. She also serves as the starting point guard for the Australian national team, the Opals. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she became the first Australian to record at least 15 points and five assists in a bronze medal game and was named FIBA’s Rising Star of the tournament.
Melbourne is expected to add backcourt depth for the Storm alongside players such as Natisha Hiedeman and Zia Cooke.
