‘Stop judging’ – Emma Hayes tipped to become England men’s manager one day

Emma Hayes has been tipped to one day manage the England men’s national team.

The former Chelsea women’s boss could be a potential candidate for the FA in the future, according to talkSPORT’s Shebahn Aherne.

Although current manager Thomas Tuchel has two years remaining on his deal, the Three Lions’ World Cup exit has caused mounting pressure for the German.

Tuchel signed an extension through to the end of Euro 2028 in February.

As for Hayes, the 49-year-old won 16 trophies during 12 years in charge of the Blues, including seven Women’s Super League titles.

Her side also reached the final of the Women’s Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Having left Chelsea in 2024, Hayes has since served as head coach of the USA women’s national team.

She has since continued her previous success, winning Olympic gold in Paris two years ago.

Hayes tipped for England

Aherne has now proposed a potential appointment as Three Lions manager for Hayes once she leaves her current role.

Discussing the England post with Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT Breakfast, she said: “We were talking earlier on about Pep Guardiola, if he were to possibly get the England job.

“I was actually thinking, I think some time soon you could see somebody like Emma Hayes get appointed for the England job.”

Pep Guardiola is currently without a job having left Manchester City after nine years in charge at the end of last season.

The Spaniard is keen to manage England in the future, talkSPORT understands, having been tipped as a possible successor to Tuchel.

However, the FA could face competition from the likes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to appoint Guardiola.

Impressive analysis

Meanwhile, Hayes is fresh from appearing as a pundit for ITV during this summer’s World Cup.

Her analysis throughout the tournament in particular caught the eye of supporters.

Aherne was equally impressed, adding: “I think she really captured the nation, this tournament. I think a lot of people enjoyed her analysis.

“People like John Terry, Simon Jordan, you’ve got to spend time with this woman and understand her brain and maybe stop judging people on having worked with women.

“And just being a world class coach, which she is.”

Hayes has been backed for roles in men’s football already in her career.

Gary Lineker even once contacted his former club Leicester City to urge them to consider appointing her.

She was also reportedly considered for the first-team manager’s job by AFC Wimbledon back in 2021.
