Shawn Gibbs reacts to debilitating 59-10 loss to Georgia State

North Carolina A&T head coach Shawn Gibbs weighed in on his team’s 59-10 loss to Georgia State on Thursday. In an interview with HBCU Wired’s Jamie Walker, Gibbs expressed his disappointment in the outcome.

“It wasn’t really a lot of positives, just to be honest with you. Um, you know, obviously they were a better football team than us tonight, but I felt like we could have played a lot better. A lot of the issues were self-inflicted and, and I keep preaching that we gotta stop doing that. We gotta take North Carolina A&T off the schedule. Um, so, you know, the positives is we got through it, um, with not a lot of major injuries. We did have one significant injury and we’ll find out more about that, um, probably tomorrow or, you know, by the end of the weekend. But, you just gotta keep fighting. You just gotta keep believing. You just gotta keep going.”

He then said he was turning his sights on the biggest game of the season: their rivalry matchup with North Carolina Central University.

“Now, of course, we got the biggest game of the year…next week against North Carolina Central down in their place. So we gotta find a way to regroup and get better this week.”

To close out his conversation with Walker, Gibbs reemphasized that he isn’t making excuses and that he believes that the team is better than what they showed on Friday evening.

“We’re better than that, than we showed tonight. You know, we’re not gonna make any excuses. It doesn’t matter who we play. Like, we’re better than what we put on the field tonight. So we gotta find a way to regroup. We gotta get this thing back on track. We gotta get it going. We’re, we’re not done. Still a long season, so we’re just gonna get better and build from this point.”
