Rory McIlroy sums up incredible feeling after back-to-back Masters wins

Rory McIlroy has won the Masters for the second consecutive year. Prior to his 2025 win, McIlroy was snakebitten at Augusta National. Then, he clinched the Career Grand Slam in a playoff over Justin Rose, and now, he has two Green Jackets in his closet. McIlroy summed up the feeling in his champions’ press conference.

“I can’t believe I waited 17 years to get a Green Jacket and now I got two in a row,” McIlroy said in Butler Cabin after the win.

McIlroy flew out of the gates into an incredible professional career. He won four major championships before turning 26 years old, clinching that fourth title at the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla. Over ten years later, he stood on the 18th tee at Augusta with a one-shot lead over Rose. He bogeyed, forcing a sudden-death playoff, which he won. Now, a year later, he is a two-time champion.

McIlroy soaked up his first year as Masters champion, donning the Green Jacket for many media appearances and visiting Augusta National often. He said this week there were days he dropped his daughter off at school, hopped in the private jet, shot up to Augusta, played a round, and went home for dinner. Maybe new ways to don the Green Jacket are coming for the two-time champion.

McIlroy is just the fourth man to win consecutive Masters titles, joining Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, and Jack Nicklaus. He became the 19th player to win multiple Green Jackets, the 15th to reach six career major championships, and the 5th European with multiple Masters.

Last year, McIlroy struggled at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open after the euphoric release at Augusta National. He did bounce back for a top-five finish at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. How will this season play out after his second Green Jacket?
