Fever’s game vs. Sky makes viewership history not seen since WNBA’s inaugural season

Recently, the Indiana Fever improved to 25-14 on the WNBA season with an impressive blowout road win over the Chicago Sky by a score of 113-90. Caitlin Clark put together an epic game in this one, recording a stat line of 37 points and ten assists on 8-12 shooting from beyond the arc.

Now, some reports are coming out about the astonishing viewership numbers the game pulled in for the league.

“Wow. Fever-Sky was the highest watched WNBA regular season game since the league’s opening weekend in 1997 (like when the league started), according to the league and NBC. 3.31 million people watched on NBC+Peacock,” reported Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.

WNBA viewership has steadily increased over the past few years since the arrival of Clark and other young stars in the league, along with the growing profile of women’s basketball as a whole around the globe.

Games between the Fever and Sky used to feature the matchup of Clark and former college rival Angel Reese, although Reese is now a member of the Atlanta Dream, which makes it even more odd that it was Sunday’s matchup that ended up garnering the most views.

Reese has been putting up some epic stat lines of her own, including recently setting the WNBA record for rebounds in a game, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Fever and Dream match up in the WNBA playoffs this year.

Meanwhile, Clark and the Fever are looking to continue peaking at the right time ahead of the postseason.

The Fever are set to continue their season on Friday with a home game against the Connecticut Sun.
