Patrick Beverley urges 76ers’ LeBron James to live in Philadelphia amid NYC reports
The Philadelphia 76ers recently learned their schedule for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season, one in which LeBron James will be a member of the team after a shocking free agency decision. James joins Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid as cornerstones of a 76ers team that suddenly has title aspirations.
Reports have emerged in recent weeks that James is planning to live in New York City during the upcoming season and commute to Philadelphia by helicopter for games and practices, but one person not on board with that idea is former 76ers guard and James’ former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Patrick Beverley.
“I ain’t telling you what to do, as a man, I could never tell another man what to do. But, to really enjoy Philadelphia, you have to live in Philadelphia,” said Beverley, via Barstool Sports, per Legion Hoops on X, formerly Twitter.
Many fans have been puzzled by James’ decision to live in an entirely different city than the one in which he will be playing. It’s unclear how much the enjoyment of Philadelphia itself played into James’ choice to join the 76ers. Instead, many have speculated that the decision was purely a basketball one, with the opportunity to play alongside several other All-Star talents and in a less top-heavy conference, proving too good for James to pass up as he enters his 24th NBA season.
There are plenty of questions remaining about how the 76ers will fit together on the court, with concerns about perimeter shooting, defense, and health all coming to the forefront over the past few weeks.
Still, things are undeniably much more interesting in Philadelphia than they were a month ago, even if LeBron himself will only be there during business hours.
