Packers WR Matthew Golden drops a confident take on his NFL Year 2

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden enters his second NFL season expecting more opportunities and says he plans to make the most of them. The 23-year-old is projected for a larger role after the Packers reshaped their receiver room this offseason.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Dominique Yates posted a 23-second locker-room clip Monday on X, formerly Twitter, of Golden during Week 1 media availability in Green Bay, where the second-year receiver offered a confident outlook on the bigger opportunities awaiting him in 2026.

“All the opportunities I will get this year, I know I’ll make the most of them.”

Golden caught 29 passes for 361 yards on 44 targets across 14 games as a rookie, making five starts while missing three games due to injury. The former Texas football standout then flashed his potential in Green Bay’s NFC wild-card game vs. the Chicago Bears, hauling in four passes for 84 yards and scoring his first NFL touchdown.

The Packers drafted Golden with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, making him the franchise’s first first-round wide receiver since Javon Walker in 2002. Golden played college football at Houston and Texas and ran a blistering 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine.

The path to more snaps opened further after Romeo Doubs signed with the New England Patriots in free agency and Green Bay traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. Those departures left Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Golden as the established top three receivers.

The Packers wide receiver can build on his late-season momentum while taking on a more prominent role in an offense that lost two established receivers this offseason.

Jordan Love has identified Golden as Green Bay’s X receiver, and the thinner receiver room should create more opportunities. Golden enters Sunday’s opener vs. the Minnesota Vikings projected for a bigger role in Year 2.
