Shane Wright’s agent opens up on Kraken trade request before training camp

Last season, the Seattle Kraken shopped Shane Wright ahead of the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline. A trade did not materialize at the time, and he finished the season in the Pacific Northwest. This summer, Wright decided to push for a trade himself, requesting a move out of Washington state.

Training camp across the NHL is quickly approaching. And at this time, Wright remains with the Kraken. As things stand, he will take to the ice with the team that drafted him in 2022. For now, the young forward remains willing to work with Seattle and focus on the team should he remain.

“There is nothing we can discuss right now, we will see how things develop over the next few weeks,” Wright’s agent, Kurt Overhardt, shared in a statement with Emerald City Spectrum. “Until that time, Shane is fully committed to the Kraken and that is all he is focused on now.”

The 22-year-old forward had a breakout campaign for Seattle in 2024-25. He scored 19 goals and put up a career high 44 points. However, things took a downward turn during his second full season in the league.

The Kraken forward scored just 12 goals and 27 points in 2025-26. It was during this campaign that rumors surfaced about Seattle exploring his trade market. Seattle was in a Wild Card chase. Adding another, more experienced forward was their primary goal before the deadline.

Things with this situation certainly remain unresolved. However, this does not mean Wright isn’t prepared to commit to the Kraken for the coming season if that comes to pass.
