JJ Redick names his top 5 NBA shooters, says one stands alone

JJ Redick believes Stephen Curry stands alone among the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history.

During an appearance on “The Draymond Green Show,” the Lakers head coach unveiled his all-time top five. Curry claimed the clear No. 1 spot, while Redick completed his list with Klay Thompson, Kyle Korver, Ray Allen, and Reggie Miller in no particular order.

“Steph [Curry] is first. Everybody else is way down the list to me,” Redick said. “In no particular order, the other four, it’s Klay Thompson, Kyle Korver, Ray Allen, Reggie Miller.”

Redick also explained why comparing generations requires more than looking at percentages. He credited earlier players while arguing that modern shooters attempt tougher shots and carry a larger offensive burden from beyond the arc.

Why Redick Gives Modern Shooters the Edge

“I don’t want to disparage the previous iteration of three-point shooters in the ’80s or the ’90s, but those guys were not shooting the shots we take today,” Redick said. “Those guys were not taking the difficult shots we were taking, nor were they shooting it at the volume.”

For Redick, the sport’s evolution separates today’s specialists from their predecessors. Teams now build offenses around creating opportunities from deep, making quantity nearly as important as shot quality.

“It was a different game, and the game has evolved,” Redick added. “Now we put such a premium on generating three-point looks. It’s not just about the quality of the look. It’s the volume of looks.”

Redick now brings that perspective into his third season leading the Lakers. After coaching Anthony Davis and LeBron James during his first two years, he enters the 2026-27 campaign with a reshaped roster centered on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves as Los Angeles begins its post-LeBron chapter.
