Packers’ MarShawn Lloyd is ready to make a name for himself in 2026

The Green Bay Packers are set to start MarShawn Lloyd at running back this season, as Josh Jacobs is on the Commissioner’s Exempt List due to an alleged domestic violence incident. It’s an opportunity for Lloyd to prove himself worthy as a starter in the NFL for the first time since being drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Lloyd is seemingly chomping at the bit to play in the Packers’ Week 1 opener against the Minnesota Vikings, according to Kelly Hallinan of NBC 26. While talking with media members on Monday, the 25-year-old ball carrier admitted he looks forward to making a name for himself against his opponents.

“A lot of players don’t know me,” Lloyd said. “They’ll watch my college tape, if anything. They won’t even know anything about me, won’t even worry about me. But they will eventually, at some point this year. So, I just gotta keep [keeping] my head down and working. That’s the biggest thing.”

The former USC Trojans star has essentially been absent from the Packers’ running back rotation throughout his career up until this moment. He’s only ever appeared in one game, and that was in the 2024-25 season during his rookie year. As Lloyd pointed out, nobody really knows a whole lot about him.

Lloyd played two years for the South Carolina Gamecocks before transferring to USC in 2023. He played 11 games for the Trojans that season, logging 116 carries for 870 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 232 yards through the air as well. He is now expected to be the lead back for the Packers, at least to begin the 2026-27 season.
