Dodgers bring back Emmet Sheehan, options reliever before Reds clash

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won four straight games, including sweeping the Washington Nationals over the weekend. In the final game of the series, the Dodgers scored three runs in the eighth inning to take the win. The victorious pitcher in that game was Bobby Miller, who had just been activated from the IL.

Now, the Dodgers are making another move involving Miller, per an announcement from the team.

“The Dodgers recalled RHP Emmet Sheehan and optioned RHP Bobby Miller,” the Dodgers announced.

Miller began the season on the 60-day IL and made seven appearances with one start for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The three innings, giving up one run on Sunday is the only appearance of the year with the major league club.

Sheehan was optioned to the minors at the beginning of August. He was dominant in four starts at the Triple-A level. He went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 18 innings of work. He was just 4-8 prior to being sent to the minors, with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. The Dodgers had lost five in a row and nine of ten games when Sheehan took the mound before being sent to the minors. In his final start with the Dodgers, he went just 2.2 innings, giving up five runs and three home runs against the Boston Red Sox at the start of August.

The Dodgers are 86-57 on the year, which places them in first place in the NL West. They also have the second-best record in the National League, just two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. They open a series with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.
