NBA rumors: Why LeBron James could return to Lakers despite Cavs, Warriors, Clippers buzz

As much as there is a conversation about what the Los Angeles Lakers are going to do without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the first round, many are still thinking beyond that. When the Lakers’ season wraps up, everyone’s eyes will be on the future of LeBron James and what he plans to do next season.

There have been several teams rumored where James could go, such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, or Golden State Warriors, but there is growing buzz that he may return to the Lakers, according to The Athletic.

“After months of speculation that the two parties were headed for a divorce, a strong March changed the Lakers’ landscape and, potentially, the future between the organization and player,” The Athletic wrote. “Winning, sources said, increased the chances of James and the Lakers extending their partnership.

“Around the league, rumors also persist that one last run in Cleveland, or a superstar Steph Curry-James duo in Golden State, are plausible possibilities as well. Per team sources, the Warriors’ interest in James this summer remains serious. The Cavs, and the prospect of a goodbye tour where James’ journey began, are also still widely seen by rival executives as a legitimate possibility. But in both cases, the luxury tax poses obstacles that likely mean James would have to make major financial concessions to come their way.”

The Lakers were on a roll in March and were able to reach as high as the No. 3 seed, and it seems as if James sees the chemistry growing with him, Doncic and Reaves.

Though other teams may be interested in him, at the end of the day, the Lakers can offer him more than them. As far as family, he’ll still be able to play with Bronny, and his wife and daughter have been with him since he moved to Los Angeles. As for Bryce, he is still playing in Arizona, which is still on the West Coast.

If there was any time to believe that James was returning to the Lakers, it’s now.
