NBA rumors: Rival execs would trade Evan Mobley, picks for Giannis after Bucks’ deadline demands to Cavs
Recently, the Milwaukee Bucks have been embroiled in trade rumors surrounding franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The rumors have continued through the Bucks’ recent hiring of Taylor Jenkins as their new head coach, with some wondering if they might finally trade the star and embrace a rebuild.
The Cleveland Cavaliers were reported by ClutchPoints in February to have been a team with exploratory interest in a Giannis deal.
Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer broke down what it would take for the Cavaliers to pry Antetokounmpo away from the Bucks in a trade.
“…it would take Evan Mobley and all of Cleveland’s available draft capital to get it done,” reported Fischer on Marc Stein’s Substack.
While it may be a hefty price, Fischer reported that “…it’s a move that no shortage of rival executives I’ve discussed it with say they would make.”
Reportedly, the Cavaliers contacted the Bucks about a potential Giannis deal at the trade deadline, and were told that Mobley and draft capital would be the asking price, which ultimately was shut down by Cleveland. However, there is a chance that the Cavaliers could grow more desperate this summer, depending on how their current playoff run shakes out.
The Cavs are down 0-1 to the Detroit Pistons in the second round heading into Thursday’s Game 2, and they didn’t exactly look like a juggernaut in their seven-game slugfest against the Toronto Raptors in round one. With Donovan Mitchell eligible for an extension this summer, it’s possible that the Cavs could be motivated to push all their chips to the center of the table and swing a deal for Antetokounmpo at all costs, even if it means parting ways with Mobley and their draft capital for the foreseeable future.
For now, the Cavs will look to even up their series against Detroit on Thursday at 9:30 pm ET.
