Chiefs make major Arrowhead Stadium change with return to ‘iconic identity’ for 2026 season

The Kansas City Chiefs have dropped branding for their iconic Arrowhead Stadium ahead of the 2026 season.

For the past five years, thousands of fans packed into G.E.H.A Field at Arrowhead Stadium to watch their beloved team.

When football returns to Kansas City next month, the home of the Chiefs will once again be known simply as Arrowhead Stadium.

According to a statement released by the franchise, the Government Employees Health Association (G.E.H.A) will remain a proud partner, and will spearhead numerous programs across the season, including their annual NFL Salute to Service game.

“Together with the Chiefs, we made the decision to return the stadium to its iconic Arrowhead identity, honoring the legacy, tradition, and community pride it represents,” Raj Vavilala, G.E.H.A’s Executive Vice President of Growth and Strategy, said.

“We are proud to have been part of this chapter in the stadium’s history and to celebrate the return of a name that is synonymous with Chiefs Kingdom.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan, meanwhile, hailed G.E.H.A as a ‘tremendous partner’ to the team.

He said: “This mutual decision reflects a shared commitment to honoring the rich history of Arrowhead Stadium and the Chiefs organization.

“We are thrilled to continue working with G.E.H.A on all of the key community, military, and veteran-focused programs that they have helped us bring to life over the years.”

Arrowhead Stadium, which opened in 1972, has already gone through a name change this year.

It was known as ‘Kansas City Stadium’ for this summer’s World Cup, to ensure it complied with FIFA’s strict branding rules, which also affected other NFL stadiums.

The original naming deal with G.E.H.A was slated to go through the 2031 season.

When announced in 2021, industry estimates put the total undisclosed value of the agreement anywhere from $10million to $140m across the decade.

Chiefs moving out of Arrowhead for new $3bn stadium

The team, of course, has already announced plans to be out of their beloved Arrowhead Stadium come 2031.

Plans are in place for the four-time Super Bowl champion franchise to build a new, $3billion domed facility in Kansas City, Kansas.

Initial concept renderings were released in July, with local architecture firm Manica selected as the lead design architect for the project, which will feature an enclosed roof featuring translucent ETFE panels and a total capacity of approximately 70,000.

“From the beginning, our goal has been to build something that improved the gameday experience for every single fan. This new stadium will do just that,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said last month.
