Why Broncos’ Troy Franklin ‘lit up’ when asked about Jaylen Waddle

One of the key acquisitions the Denver Broncos made this offseason was trading for Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. He’s in line to step in as the club’s No. 1 option in the passing game, giving quarterback Bo Nix more to work with in the 2026-27 campaign. However, it appears that nobody is more excited to play alongside Waddle than Troy Franklin.

While talking with media members on Wednesday, Franklin “lit up” when asked about Waddle’s presence in Denver, according to Luca Evans of the Denver Post. The former Oregon Duck admitted he is impressed with Waddle’s speed and that he is doing his part to learn everything he can from his new teammate.

“Oh, man. I mean, he’s fast as hell. He’s quick,” Franklin said about Waddle. “I think I’m just trying to do a good job of being a sponge and take whatever I can from him.”

A fresh start with a new team might be exactly what Waddle needs in his NFL career. The last two years with the Dolphins weren’t the best, as he failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards in both campaigns. However, the former first-round pick came close last season, ending his final year in Miami with 64 receptions, 910 yards, and six touchdowns.

Troy Franklin, on the other hand, is entering his third season in the league. Year 1 was a developmental season before he took a solid jump in production in Year 2. He ended his second campaign with the Broncos with 65 receptions for 709 yards and six scores. Franklin is in line for the WR3 role in Denver and can certainly learn a thing or two from Jaylen Waddle.
