Dodgers’ Kyle Tucker getting booed at Wrigley Field draws hilarious broadcaster quip

The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Chicago Cubs, moving their losing streak to six games. The two-time defending champions aren’t received well in any road stadium, but Wrigley Field was something special. The Cubs fans booed Kyle Tucker in his return to the Friendly Confines with the Dodgers.

As Tucker stepped into the batter’s box, the Cubs fans booed him aggressively. Color commentator Jim Deshaies said, “They boo him like he stole the 2016 World Series Trophy!” While Tucker did not steal the North Side’s prized possession, he did leave for the Dodgers in free agency after one season at Wrigley.

Before the 2025 season, the Cubs traded a bevy of prospects to the Houston Astros for one season of Tucker. He was fantastic in the first half, posting a .883 OPS in 95 games before earning a starting role in the All-Star Game. An injury put a damper on his second half, with a .738 OPS in 41 games.

After the season, Tucker had interest from many of the top contenders, including the Cubs. He signed a four-year deal worth $60 million per season with the Dodgers, further solidifying them as the new evil empire. While Tucker has not been great this season, he still gets booed in Chicago.

The Cubs swept the Dodgers on the back of Pete Crow-Armstrong’s sensational Wednesday game. He slugged two homers, matching Shohei Ohtani’s incredible game, to lift Chicago to victory. The Cubbies have won four of their last five games and closed the gap in the NL Central to just five games.

Tucker and the Dodgers are sliding after sweeps at the hands of the Red Sox and Cubs. They visit the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks for three massive games starting on Friday. Tucker did have five hits at Wrigley, so maybe he can push them back into the win column.
