Falcons fans outraged over ex-rival’s disrespectful Jalon Walker-Bijan Robinson ‘soul for a soul’ take
The Atlanta Falcons recently got some tough news that rising second-year defender Jalon Walker will be out for the upcoming season with a torn ACL. The news came just hours after it was announced that the team had re-signed superstar Bijan Robinson to a new deal that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Recently, former NFL defensive lineman Gerald McCoy made a bizarre link between the two events during an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up.
“You have to give up a soul to get a soul. … Jalon Walker gets hurt, but we get Bijan Robinson,” he said, per Get Up on X, formerly Twitter.
Needless to say, fans in the comment section were not thrilled with the hot take.
“The fact he said this on air and then this official page took the time to clip it and post it…ESPN reaching new lows day by day,” wrote one fan.
“Hey Gerald! I hope you snap your leg clean off your body so someone on your set stays healthy! Soul for a soul!” wrote another.
McCoy might have some leftover vitriol toward the Falcons from his playing career, as he was a member of both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers, divisional rivals of Atlanta in the NFC South.
The loss of Walker certainly hurts Atlanta on defense, specifically with the looming possibility of a suspension for James Pearce Jr. depending on how his legal situation plays out.
Meanwhile, the Falcons also have to figure out whether Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa will be their starting quarterback for Week 1.
The Falcons are slated to kick off their new season on September 13 vs the Pittsburgh Steelers.
