Madeline Gaudreau posts heartfelt message to husband Matthew ahead of 2nd anniversary of his death

Madeline Gaudreau is remembering her late husband, Matthew Gaudreau.

Almost two years ago, the AHL player and his brother, Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau, were killed by an alleged drunk driver as they were biking in New Jersey. The brothers were in their home state ahead of their sister’s wedding on Aug. 29, 2024.

On Monday, Aug. 3, Madeline shared a black-and-white photo from their wedding on her Instagram Story per People, writing, “You gave me the best life. We miss you.”

The couple, who got married in July 2021, were expecting a child before his death. Madeline gave birth to their son Tripp Matthew Gaudreau on December 26, 2024. She shared a photo of her holding his hand on Instagram with the caption, “Tripp Matthew
Mommy & Daddy’s world.”

Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny’s wife, spoke to The Player’s Tribune last year about the moment she found out about his death.

“I was in shock,” she recalled. “I was keeled over for days sick to my stomach. It’s completely indescribable. The only person who can relate to me is my own sister-in-law. I see her and my heart breaks for her. I’m sick for her. We had just celebrated their gender reveal. We were all just down the shore together and had so much fun. Matty made me laugh so much that weekend.”

She went on to share how much she misses her husband and her brother-in-law.

“I couldn’t stand up. I was awake and having nightmares. Thinking of you in that moment. Thinking of Matty. It’s just the worst thing I could have ever imagined. And in an instant, I missed you more than I knew was possible. And I haven’t stopped missing you since. That feeling never goes away. I’m so sorry. I love you so much. I miss you every second of every day. I miss you more and more every day as well. My love grows deeper for you each day too.”

Guy Gaudreau speaks on son’s death ahead of 2nd anniversary

Matthew and Johnny’s father, Guy Gaudreau, recently spoke to TMZ about his son’s deaths. He told the outlet that he has not forgiven, Sean Higgins, who was charged with aggravated manslaughter after allegedly hitting his sons with his Jeep. Guy told the outlet that he doesn’t know how he will ever forgive Higgins.

Guy told the outlet that he has not forgiven God for taking his sons away from him.
“Everyone’s life goes on but mine. I will never get my sons back,” he said.

Higgins has pleaded not guilty and rejected a plea deal. A judge denied motions to dismiss or reduce the charges, per ESPN.  He is facing two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, which each count carrying up to a 30 year sentence. The trial for Higgins has not yet begun.
