NBA Rumors: 4 potential trade destination for Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

As Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future hangs in the balance ahead of a critical offseason, early reports indicate the future Hall of Fame forward is interested in joining a title-contending team, preferably in the Eastern Conference. There could be 10 teams interested in Bucks’ Antetokounmpo, with the necessary trade capital to land Giannis this summer. Milwaukee is expected to take its time combing through offers.

Here are four potential suitors for Antetokounmpo reportedly expected to engage in trade talks with the Bucks and could land a deal.

Houston Rockets

For a team that entered the regular season with championship aspirations, the 2025-26 campaign didn’t go as planned for the Rockets. Pairing All-Star Alperen Sengun with Kevin Durant kept the Rockets in the upper echelon of the Western Conference standings, but never convincing enough to think they could compete with the defending champion Thunder, second-placed Spurs, Nuggets, or Timberwolves.

Missing Fred VanVleet at point guard was a crucial source of the Rockets’ offensive woes, stemming from inconsistencies, suggesting that perhaps Sengun and Durant aren’t the dynamic tandem Houston thought they’d be. Perhaps 2026 is the summer the Rockets front office pulls the trigger on its second consecutive blockbuster trade, pairing Giannis Antetokounmpo with Durant instead.

Packaging Sengun around young talent in a deal to the Bucks would be enough to land the Rockets the Greek Freak. While initial reports suggested an Eastern Conference team, Houston could have the best young talent to bring to the table. However, all of this is predicated on how the Rockets view their youth, including Sengun, and if they’re ready to cut ties with a future perennial All-Star forward for an older, more seasoned Antetokounmpo.

“As rival executives often point out, Houston has the sort of elite young talent (namely Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson) that could serve as the foundation of a promising pitch,” Amick and Nehm reported. “The question now is whether the Rockets, with one more guaranteed season left on Durant’s deal, feel compelled to speed things up by way of another superstar or remain patient with their younger prospects.”

Will the Rockets feel more compelled to pair Antetokounmpo with Durant than to build a young and talented core around Sengun and Durant for one more season in a gritty and competitive Western Conference?

Boston Celtics

NBA fans’ ears collectively perked up when Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo referred to coach Joe Mazzulla and the Celtics as an organization that sets the standard of a winning culture in the NBA. The praiseworthy remarks sparked a conversation.

Then, All-Star Jaylen Brown poured gasoline onto the speculation and set it ablaze. Intentional or not, Brown, referring to 2025-26 as his favorite season of his career, for many, suggested he really enjoyed his alpha role, while All-Star Jayson Tatum nursed a season-long injury. The Finals MVP guard won a championship in 2024.

Furthermore, Brown voiced his displeasure with how the Celtics’ offense changed once Tatum returned. After Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens addressed Tracy McGrady’s recent comments, suggesting Brown was unhappy with things, Jaylen returned to his stream to remind everyone that he wants to stay in Boston.

However, a recent report suggested the Celtics did inquire about Antetokounmpo before this year’s trade deadline, meaning the Celtics, who blew a 3-1 lead for the first time in franchise history, will most likely be calling the Bucks front office again.

“There were signs of interest at the February trade deadline, and it would stand to reason that the postseason finish only increases the odds that the Celtics will consider anything and everything when it comes to star players,” Amick and Nehm reported.

“Don’t forget about the random praise that Antetokounmpo heaped upon Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla back in early April while discussing the Bucks’ struggles. But Brown’s comments, not surprisingly, added fuel to this fire.”

Miami Heat

Ever since the Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Warriors in 2025, many have speculated that Pat Riley had eyes for Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo as his next leading star. For a Heat front office that made the necessary roster moves to create enough cap space to sign LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, and land Butler via a sign-and-trade in 2019, Riley is known to plan ahead.

Two championships (2012, 2013) and seven NBA Finals appearances later, the Heat will undoubtedly be in talks with the Bucks over a potential trade for Antetokounmpo.

“While missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019 might suggest the Heat are more than just one star away from title contention, Pat Riley made it clear the Heat would like to be front and center in any discussions surrounding Antetokounmpo’s next team once again,” Amick and Nehm wrote.

“In his end of the season interview, Riley told reporters that the team would be “aggressive as hell” in the offseason and getting help for Bam Adebayo was his top priority. Some lottery luck would help significantly in this regard.”

The Heat drew the 13th overall pick in this year’s lottery.

Orlando Magic

After putting together a starting lineup that the Magic front office deemed worthy of competing with the best teams in the Eastern Conference, 2025-26 proved that Paolo Banchero and company still have ways to go in their development. Is this the summer the Magic trade for a superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo as Banchero’s replacement?

“For the Bucks, the potential allure of a Magic deal is the prospect of landing the likes of 23-year-old former No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero (five years and a combined $230 million on his deal, including a player option in the 2030-31 season),” Amick and Nehm noted.

“The history between Antetokounmpo and the Magic’s front office is worth remembering, too, as president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman was the assistant general manager of the Bucks when Antetokounmpo was drafted in 2013, and John Hammond, who is the Magic’s senior advisor of basketball operations, was the general manager who took him with the 15th pick.”

With shooting and perimeter defense as a selling point for Magic fans, building a championship-contending roster around Antetokounmpo this summer could be worth the risk.
