MLB rumors: Why Mike Trout trade suitors should take a hike despite Angels stinking again

The Los Angeles Angels currently have the longest active postseason drought in Major League Baseball. That drought looks to continue this season, as the Angels once again are struggling in the American League West. Ahead of the MLB trade deadline, suitors are reportedly interested in calling about Angels slugger Mike Trout.

A new report is throwing cold water on the idea that Trout will be traded.

“The reality, whether folks in Philadelphia or anywhere accept it or not, Trout and his family of four are quite comfortable in Southern California, and aren’t going anywhere,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote. “He’s not asking for a trade. Angels owner Arte Moreno has no interest in trading him. And with $140 million still remaining on his contract after this season, opposing GMs don’t even bother calling.”

Trout though does want to see the Angels improve. Los Angeles is headed toward another losing season. The club is just 29-44 on the campaign.

“He definitely wants to win,” Angels GM Perry Minasian said to the outlet. “He’s a winning person in all facets of life. So, he definitely wants that on the baseball field, too.”

Trout has been the face of the Angels for a long time, especially since Shohei Ohtani left the team. This season, Trout is hitting at a .230 average. He has 16 home runs this season.

“I don’t believe,” Minasian said, “that there will be anybody else that wears the ‘A’ like he does. He represents the team as well as you possibly can.”

Things aren’t going well for L.A.’s American League club. Angels owner Arte Moreno has been under fire from fans, who desperately want him to sell off the team. Moreno has also made questionable comments about Angels fans in the past, saying they aren’t really interested in winning.

The Angels last made the postseason in 2014.
