MLB rumors: Astros among teams bugging Giants on Logan Webb trade

Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown continues to explore the trade market ahead of Monday’s deadline, and starting pitching has emerged as a major area of focus despite Brown previously identifying an outfield bat as the team’s biggest priority. Entering Friday’s crucial AL West series against the Texas Rangers with a 55-55 record, Houston is searching for reinforcements as it battles for postseason positioning.

The Astros are among the teams repeatedly checking on San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. However, the Giants have consistently informed interested teams that the three-time All-Star is not availabl.

San Francisco’s stance is supported by Webb’s contract status, as the right-hander remains under team control through the 2028 season. The Giants, despite owning a 47-62 record, sitting 22 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West and 10 games out of a Wild Card spot, are expected to keep Webb while moving other players before the deadline.

Webb has remained one of San Francisco’s most dependable starters in 2026. Across 19 starts, he owns a 6-7 record with a 3.93 ERA over 119 innings, adding 93 strikeouts, 30 walks and a 1.12 WHIP. In his most recent outing on July 29, Webb allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings while striking out four. He has completed at least six innings in nine of his last 10 starts dating back to June 3. Excluding his first two MLB seasons in 2019 and 2020, Webb has never finished a season with an ERA above 4.00 and led the majors in games started with 34 in 2024 and 33 in 2025.

Although Webb appears untouchable, Houston could still find a match with the Giants. Nightengale reported that the Giants plan to trade outfielder Heliot Ramos, who is batting .267 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs, a .306 on-base percentage and a .739 OPS in 71 games.

San Francisco is also willing to absorb part of Robbie Ray’s $25 million salary in a deal. Ray, the 2021 Cy Young Award winner, is 10-6 with a 3.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 107 strikeouts in 122.2 innings, though he also leads the National League with 57 walks. These developments amplify the Astros’ aggressive pursuit of pitching help before the deadline.
