Mets’ Juan Soto shares wild throwback Nationals post amid series

The New York Mets have been up and down lately, still with a lot of ground to make up amid their brutal start to the 2026 MLB season. The Mets have dropped the last two games against the NL East divisional rival Washington Nationals after winning the first game of the series, and will look to even things out on Thursday.

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Mets star Juan Soto took to his Instagram story to share an old viral video of a group of Nationals fans correctly predicting his upcoming home run during an at-bat when he was a member of Washington, with the caption, “Who’s calling it tonight?” alongside laughing emojis.

Making matters crazier was the fact that Soto indeed launched a home run on Wednesday night in his former home stadium, drawing some cheers from both Mets fans and Nationals fans in the process.

Soto began his illustrious MLB career with the Nationals, helping lead them to a World Series championship win in the 2019 season, before bouncing around to other teams around the MLB, and finally winding up with the Mets long-term last offseason.

Unfortunately, Soto’s time in the Big Apple has been marred by disappointment thus far, as the Mets missed the playoffs altogether in 2025 despite entering the year with championship expectations, and have gotten off to a similarly rough start in 2026.

Through it all, Soto has remained one of the most feared hitters in the MLB landscape, and the Mets are hoping that some better injury luck, combined with an overall regression to the mean from some key players on their roster, will be enough to allow them back into the race in the NL East.
