Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh’s slump hits brutal new low despite win over Astros

The Seattle Mariners secured an important divisional victory Monday night, but Cal Raleigh’s offensive slide remained a major storyline after another rough offensive outing vs. the Houston Astros.

Raleigh entered Monday’s game looking for his first hit since April 27. Instead, the switch-hitting catcher went 0-for-4 in the Mariners’ 3-1 win at Daikin Park, extending the longest hitless streak by any Major League Baseball player this season.

After Monday’s result, Raleigh’s drought reached 0-for-36. He entered the night batting just .161 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs through 38 games, a sharp drop for one of Seattle’s most important power bats.

Talkin’ Baseball shared the statistic Monday on X, formerly Twitter, following the matchup alongside a graphic showcasing how difficult the star catcher’s struggles have been early in the 2026 season.

“Cal Raleigh is currently in the longest hitless stretch any player in MLB has had this season”

The post drew even more attention because Raleigh entered the 2026 season coming off what many considered one of the greatest offensive campaigns ever produced by a catcher after his historic power surge last year.

Last season, Raleigh emerged as an MVP contender after blasting 60 home runs while earning both Silver Slugger and All-Star honors. That breakout year makes his difficult start to 2026 even more surprising given the expectations surrounding one of Seattle’s most dangerous hitters.

The club still found enough offense to secure the victory, with Julio Rodriguez delivering a solo home run that helped lift the Mariners within two games of first place in the American League West standings. Even so, Raleigh’s prolonged struggles remain a concern as Seattle attempts to gain momentum in a tightly contested division race.

For now, the Mariners continue winning while waiting for one of their most important hitters to rediscover his timing before the drought becomes even more difficult to manage.
