Lou Williams’ take on Steve Kerr extension will catch fans’ attention
After speculation among NBA fans and prognosticators that Steve Kerr would retire after coaching the Warriors this season, Kerr returned to Golden State on a two-year extension that is set to pay him $35 million. The deal makes him the current highest-paid coach in NBA history and will allow him two more years to compete for a title with Steph Curry and the Golden State roster.
“This says 'We got 2 years to win a championship.' Steve Kerr's never been a developmental coach… They’re gonna try to put some major players around Steph Curry to make a legitimate run.”

In a recent edition of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, Lou Williams believes that Kerr’s re-signing with the Warriors signals that the team is all-in to build a contender around Curry.
“This says ‘We got 2 years to win a championship.’ Steve Kerr’s never been a developmental coach… They’re gonna try to put some major players around Steph Curry to make a legitimate run,” Williams said.
The Warriors have proven to be aggressive in signing win-now players in recent seasons. At the trade deadline in 2025, the Warriors were aggressively looking for another star to pair with Curry to make a run for a title.
They ultimately traded for Jimmy Butler, who wanted to move on from Miami. After Jimmy Butler’s season-ending injury in January, when he tore his right ACL, the Warriors once again aggressively pursued star-level help on the trade market, finding themselves a central piece of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes as the Bucks indicated he was available.
Now heading into the 2026 offseason, the Warriors find themselves in an interesting position to get more talent on the roster around Curry. They currently have the 11th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and several tradable contracts that could land them the win-now players they look to have to maximize the last bit of their championship window.
