Knicks’ James Dolan uses dad joke to guarantee beating SGA, Thunder in NBA Finals
James Dolan has a lot on his mind these days. Aside from overseeing the New York Knicks and watching them battle in the playoffs, he also has to handle his other business, Sphere Entertainment Co., as its CEO.
It must be extremely harrowing and totally soul-crushing to deal with all his money.
On Tuesday, he had a meeting with Sphere Entertainment Co., as reported by The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov. Dolan was asked about the SG&A costs or selling, general, and administrative expenses, and he could not help but make an NBA-themed joke.
“Boy, I’m really tempted to crack a joke here. So I guess I will. So SG&A is a great basketball player, and when we get to the finals, I’m sure we’re going to beat them,” said Dolan.
Well, if you have a net worth of approximately $2 billion, you can always be funny.
Obviously, Dolan was referring to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Knicks are hoping to dethrone the Thunder and win their first title since 1973. Dolan was only 18 years old at that time.
Incidentally, he took control of the Knicks in 1999, the last year New York advanced to the NBA Finals.
The Knicks are on the right track to return to the championship round. After ousting the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, they routed the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of the conference semifinals. The Knicks became the first team in league history to notch three straight wins in the playoffs by at least 25 points.
In an interview, Dolan stated that New York must “absolutely” reach the NBA Finals, expressing confidence that the team has the tools to make it happen.
Clearly, the Knicks cannot afford to lose. In this economy?
