Carlos Correa’s huge injury update will catch Astros fans’ attention

It was recently revealed that Houston Astros star infielder Carlos Correa is hoping to play again this season after initial reports suggested he’d miss the rest of the campaign after suffering an ankle injury in May. Brian McTaggart of MLB.com shared a new update on Correa’s injury recovery before Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Astros SS/3B Carlos Correa received good news at the doctor today, getting cleared to start swinging the bat, a source said. Correa is trying to buck the odds and return to the field late in the season after undergoing tendon surgery in May,” McTaggart reported.

Correa was swinging the bat well across 32 games played before suffering the injury, recording a .279 batting average to go along with a .787 OPS. Houston would love to have Correa available for the end of the season and the postseason of course. It remains to be seen when he will return, but the fact that he has been cleared to begin swinging the bat is certainly an encouraging sign.

Houston is 58-56 at the moment, which is good for first place in the American League West standings. The Astros are 2.5 games ahead of both the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners at the moment. It is a weak division. The Astros are in a postseason position despite having an underwhelming overall campaign.
