Jaxson Dart protector agrees to $22 million contract extension before Week 1 Giants opener

Jon Runyan is running it back for at least two more years with the New York Giants after he and the NFC East franchise agreed to an extension contract on Sunday. Runyan was entering a contract year before the deal, but this development will keep him in Giants threads through 2028.

“Guard Jon Runyan and the Giants reached agreement today on a two-year, $22 million extension that includes $21.5 million guaranteed, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln,” NFL insider Adam Schefter shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

The veteran guard has played and started 29 games for the Giants since he first signed with New York in 2024, serving as the team’s starting left guard. In 2025, Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 53, along with a 49.2 run-blocking grade and a 60.7 pass-blocking grade. He appeared in 1,095 offensive snaps, incurred six penalties and allowed two sacks.

With Runyan securing a new contract, he can focus more on the work ahead on the field for the 2026 campaign. Runyan’s contract also comes on the heels of the Giants signing backup quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year extension contract.

Runyan, who just turned 29 years old in August, started his NFL career in 2020 as a sixth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers after playing four college football seasons with the Michigan Wolverines.

The Giants are looking to make noise right from the get-go of the John Harbaugh era, as they are scheduled to face NFC East rivals Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
