Ronald Koeman’s son makes history with incredible never-seen-before feat

Ronald Koeman Jr made history on Sunday by becoming the first goalkeeper to score twice in an Eredivisie match.

He scored two penalties as Telstar came from behind to rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Cambuur.

In doing so, Koeman Jr became the first goalkeeper in Eredivisie history to score twice in the same match.

The 31-year-old has also tripled his career tally, which now stands at three goals with all of those strikes being scored for Telstar in 2026.

Koeman Jr’s latest efforts were enough to snatch a point against Cambuur after his side had trailed during the second half.

Telstar played over an hour with ten men due to a red card for Nokkvi Thorisson in the 22nd minute.

Cambuur then scored twice in seven minutes after the break to take a commanding lead.

However, Koeman Jr salvaged some hope by converting from 12 yards just three minutes later.

He would have to wait until the 11th minute of stoppage time to equalise, though, once again converting a penalty.

It is not the first time Koeman Jr has scored for Telstar, though, having done the same back in May.

His 89th minute penalty against Volendam on the final day of last season was enough to secure a 2-1 victory.

The win also saw Telstar secure survival as they avoided relegation from the Eredivisie.

Who is Ronald Koeman Jr?

Koeman Jr is the son of former Netherlands captain Ronald Koeman. As a player, his dad had spells with Barcelona, PSV, Ajax, Groningen and Feyenoord.

Despite predominantly playing as a sweeper, Koeman scored 254 career goals for club and country.

Those included 115 penalties, with the former defender missing 16 spot-kicks during his career.

Koeman has since had spells managing in England with Southampton and Everton as well as returning to former club Barcelona.

His most recent job was a second stint as Netherlands boss. He stepped down after their last 32 exit at this summer’s World Cup.

As for his son, Koeman Jr was born in Barcelona before beginning his career with Dutch club Almere City.

He later joined another Netherlands-based club in Top Oss before signing for Telstar in the summer of 2021.

The stopper was subsequently part of the side which won promotion via the play-offs in 2025.

Telstar’s top-flight return marked their first taste of Eredivisie football for 47 years.

Following Sunday’s draw, they sit 13th in the table after four matches.
