Versatile Notre Dame LB ruled out vs. Wisconsin
Notre Dame will be opening their season on Sunday night, facing off against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field. Fans of both sides showed up early, and Notre Dame fans rocked T-shirts aimed at Wisconsin.
While the fans of the Irish are excited to get their season started, they got some bad news about one of their top linebackers prior to kickoff, per Jack Sobel of On3.
“It does not look like Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (knee) is planning to play today. He’s on the field in sweatpants and a jersey. Expect a lot of Drayk Bowen, Jaiden Ausberry, Jaylen Sneed and Madden Faraimo in his absence,” Sobel posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa is a junior linebacker who has been stellar over the last two seasons for the Irish. Last year, he played in 11 games, racking up 48 tackles, with three sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. He played in 14 games in 2024, with 37 tackles, a sack, and a pick. He tore his ACL against Syracuse in November 2025 and is being held out as he still recovers.
Notre Dame has plenty of options at linebacker to take his place. Drayk Bowen is entering his senior year and has played in 40 games, racking up 159 tackles in the last three seasons. Jaiden Ausberry is also a senior who has managed 107 tackles with 2.5 sacks over the last two seasons. Jaylen Sneed has 107 tackles with 6.5 sacks and four forced fumbles over his previous four years, while Madden Faraimo has the least amount of experience. He has played in just six games with 16 tackles and two sacks in his career.
Notre Dame and Wisconsin kick off at Lambeau Field at 7:30 pm ET.
