Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte knocks own teammate out of game with 93 mph line drive to head

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the final game of their series against the Houston Astros, and there happened to be an accident of friendly fire on the field. Ketel Marte hit a 93 mph line drive, and the ball made its way to Geraldo Perdomo’s head, according to Mark Berman.

“D-backs’ Geraldo Perdomo hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Ketel Marte. He was down for a few minutes but was eventually able to walk off under his own power and got a nice hand from the crowd at Daikin Park,” Berman wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Perdomo was taken out of the game.

Hopefully, Perdomo isn’t seriously hurt, and he can return to the field sooner rather than later for the Diamondbacks. As for Marte, he’s been the talk of the Diamondbacks for the past week after returning from his no-show. He addressed the team about his absence, but when asked to send a message to the fans, he didn’t have anything to say.

Afterwards, he cleared the air by sharing that he was confused.

“Going back to the press conference, when the question was asked, I didn’t really quite understand the word that was used,” Marte said via Arizona Sports. “I’m never going to stop loving my fans and that’s what I want them to understand.”

Marte has played well for the Diamondbacks since his return, and they’re going to need him if they want to make a push in these last few weeks of the regular season.
