Ivan Herrera reveals Cardinals’ secret for success after walk-off home run vs. Pirates
The St. Louis Cardinals continue proving they belong in the thick of the NL Central race, and their star believes the team’s chemistry is driving everything right now. Ivan Herrera’s walk-off home run lifted the Cardinals to a dramatic 9-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings under the lights at Busch Stadium.
St. Louis improved to 28-19 and stayed firmly in second place in the NL Central, while the Pirates remained stuck near the bottom at 24-24. Herrera’s blast also gave the Cardinals their fifth win against Pittsburgh this season with two games still remaining in the season series.
Herrera spoke honestly after the game in comments shared by FOX 2’s Kevin Ryans. The designated hitter immediately pointed toward the clubhouse atmosphere as the foundation behind the Cardinals’ strong stretch.
"The chemistry that we have is just amazing. We have guys pulling for everybody."

“This is definitely one of the best things I’ve been part of,” Herrera said. “The chemistry that we have is just amazing. I mean, we have guys pulling for everybody.”
The energy around St. Louis has looked different lately. Fans can feel it. So can the players.
Herrera explains Cardinals chemistry after Pirates thriller
Ivan Herrera did not stop there after delivering one of the biggest home runs of the Cardinals’ season. He described a clubhouse built on trust, chemistry, and genuine relationships rather than just baseball talent.

“So we got great relationships all around,” Herrera said. “Everybody hanging out, that goes a long way. You know, after the games we hang out, some guys hang out. That for me is just like, you build trust, and everybody trusts each other. So I think that’s what’s happening.”
That chemistry showed again against Pittsburgh. The crowd roared as the Cardinals kept answering pressure moments late in the game. Then Herrera delivered the knockout swing.
Now the Cardinals suddenly look like a serious problem in the NL Central. And if this clubhouse keeps believing at this level, who wants to face them in October?
