Insider drops Dodgers two-way truth bomb on Shohei Ohtani’s offensive struggles
As the Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off a loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday, 9-3, the game featured another frustrating outing for superstar Shohei Ohtani, on top of what’s been a disappointing season thus far. With Ohtani in a hitting slump for the Dodgers, this MLB insider goes into what’s been contributing to the struggles.
Katie Woo of The Athletic would be on “Foul Territory,” where she talked about Ohtani’s hitting numbers, as in the last 25 games ahead of Tuesday’s game, he’s hit a .212 batting average, has a .337 on-base percentage, and is slugging .318. In those last 25 contests, he’s recorded just one home run, with Woo saying how playing in a two-way role could be “taxing.”
“We know he’s balancing two-way responsibilities for the first time since signing that mega contract with the Dodgers. The Dodgers have tried to work in some rest days for him, because, let’s be honest, it is very taxing doing two-way things,” Woo said.
“We know Otani doesn’t really like to take batting practice on the field, but he did so for the third time already for the Dodgers, and it didn’t even look good then. So clearly this is a guy who does not feel comfortable at the plate right now,” Woo continued.
It looks like Shohei Ohtani is trying to swing out of his struggles, says @KatieJWoo.

Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani is trying to swing out of his struggles
As Ohtani is coming off another dreadful outing, going zero-for-five with two strikeouts, Ohtani looks to be “trying to swing out of it,” as Woo paraphrases manager Dave Roberts. With Ohtani at the top of Los Angeles’ hitting order, his production needs to be better as the team is going through an offensive struggle besides the star.
“So, the Dodgers need him to produce, but Ohtani needs to take a step back and then try to find some sort of production that will allow him to find better numbers at the top of the order. Because right now, it’s just not working,” Woo said.
At any rate, Ohtani looks to vastly improve in his two-way role, mostly on the hitting side, ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Giants.
