Golden Knights have ‘no further comment’ on harsh NHL penalties after Game 6

The Vegas Golden Knights eliminated the Anaheim Ducks from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and are now officially in preparation mode to face the powerful Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final.

However, they’ve run afoul of the NHL thanks to their actions following the decisive Game 6 in Anaheim.

The Golden Knights refused to open the dressing room to media members following the game, and head coach John Tortorella didn’t speak afterward. Speculation began building that this was in response to the NHL suspending defenseman Brayden McNabb for one game, and both actions were in clear violation of NHL postgame rules.

The NHL has since responded by not only stripping Vegas of a second-round pick in the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft but also fining Tortorella a hefty $100,000.

However, the Golden Knights organization is choosing to stay tight-lipped about the controversy and the subsequent punishment.

“The Golden Knights are aware of today’s announcement from the NHL regarding the postgame media availability following Game 6 in Anaheim,” the Golden Knights wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The organization will have no further comment.”

McNabb was suspended for Game 6 thanks to an interference infraction that injured Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Poehling on Tuesday in Game 5 at T-Mobile Arena; he was given a 5-minute major penalty and game misconduct.

This isn’t the first time that Tortorella has incurred the wrath of the NHL, with the most notable example being when he attempted to breach the locker room of the Calgary Flames in 2014 during his first and only year as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.

Game 1 between the Golden Knights and the Avalanche is scheduled for Wednesday evening at Ball Arena in Denver.
