Buster Posey’s defiant take on brutal failures threatening to tarnish Giants legacy

The San Francisco Giants have had a brutal year in 2026, currently sitting at 50-71 after a recent home loss vs the Houston Astros. Much of the criticism has been aimed at president of baseball operations Buster Posey, who was a legendary player for the Giants back in the day, but has seen his favor with the fanbase fall off significantly during his front office tenure.

Recently, Posey spoke on how his resilience during his playing days factors into his confidence in his current role as team president.

“Sorry to keep going back to my playing days, but that’s all I know,” he said, per Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.

Posey also spoke on whether he might voluntarily step down from the role if San Francisco’s struggles continue far into the future.

“I don’t think that’s a question for me to answer,” he said. “Ownership knows my intent in this is that I want the Giants to be great. I’m certainly committed to that for as long as they think that I’m the right person. It sounds defensive, and I don’t mean it to sound defensive, but it is still early, you know? It’s my second year doing this.”

Posey is used to bouncing back from adversity. As Ghiroli noted, each of his World Series rings with the Giants came after seasons in which the team missed the playoffs altogether, so that could certainly be factoring into his confidence that the team will be able to turn things around sooner rather than later.

Still, right now, it’s getting increasingly difficult for fans to see the silver lining, as the Giants are well out of the playoff picture in the NL, without many avenues for getting better anytime soon.
