Caleb Williams will take note of Bears’ LT plan for preseason opener

The Chicago Bears are currently gearing up to get their NFL preseason slate underway, beginning on Saturday at home against the Cleveland Browns. At this point, it’s unclear whether or not star quarterback Caleb Williams will be in the lineup for that contest, but fans shouldn’t expect to see much of him regardless until the regular season starts.

Recently, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported on the Bears’ plan at left tackle heading into the opener.

“Kiran Amegadjie is expected to be the starter at left tackle in Saturday’s preseason opener. Plan is to get close to even reps with Jedrick Wills. O-line coach Dan Roushar called their work pretty even to this point and the coaches want more to evaluate,” he reported on X, formerly Twitter.

The battle between Wills and Amegadjie has been one of the key storylines of training camp for the Bears thus far, with the team looking to give Williams the best protection possible in the pocket. Amegadjie was selected by the Bears in the 2024 NFL Draft, while Wills is entering his seventh year in the league, having been a first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns.

Chicago is hoping to take another step forward this season after a highly successful first year under head coach Ben Johnson last season, which saw Williams start to come into his own and the Bears make the divisional round of the playoffs.

Having a strong offensive line will be a key factor in whether the Bears can prove that last year was no fluke.

In any case, the Bears’ regular season is slated to get underway on September 13 with a road game against the Carolina Panthers.
