Warriors’ Stephen Curry trade ‘clickbait’ called out by Joe Lacob

The Golden State Warriors are in the midst of a difficult offseason that has included multiple failed superstar pursuits. There have also been reports that the Warriors may lose talisman Stephen Curry to another team considering the lack of a championship team around him, but those rumors appear to have stemmed more from a frustration around Golden State’s lack of additions this offseason.

And well, Warriors owner Joe Lacob has effectively shut down talk of a potential move, terming the reports suggesting Curry may leave to be ‘clickbait’ during his interview with the San Francisco Standard.

“No. I don’t think this is even a thing. This is just a clickbait thing from all these people that do this kind of thing these days, and there seems to be a lot of them. I don’t believe that any of that’s true.”

Lacob proceeded to reveal that he was extremely close to Curry, and that the thought of the two-time MVP leaving was unimaginable.

“I’m very close with Steph. He lives right near me, he’s incredibly happy, I think, with the organization, with his life. He’s got a great life. His kids are very involved in schools and all that. I just don’t see any of that. I’ve never heard a word about that, and I can’t imagine it.”

And if there was any doubt that the Warriors themselves had even considered trading their best player, Lacob was quick to reiterate their commitment to Steph.

“We certainly don’t want him to go anywhere. That idea that somehow we want him to go somewhere — we do not want Steph Curry to go anywhere. Love Steph Curry, we think he’s a great player, and I just think people are completely making a bunch of crap up. It’s just totally not true.”

Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy had only recently stated that the franchise hopes to see Curry end his career with the Warriors. This was something ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reiterated as well, revealing that Curry himself continues to remain committed to his team and is not looking to move anywhere.

“Even with the team failing to meet expectations the last couple of seasons and striking out on a big star this summer, Curry remains committed to the franchise and is not going anywhere. The Warriors have not thought about trading Curry once, and he won’t request a trade, team sources told ClutchPoints,” he wrote.

Hence, there is at this time little doubt that Steph will continue for the Warriors for the rest of his career, and the franchise will hope to lock him in once he becomes eligible to sign a max two-year, $136.7 million deal on August 29.
