Fever’s Caitlin Clark reaches new low in Team USA’s close call vs. Italy

Team USA managed to earn a 55-52 over Italy. However, it was an incredibly ugly performance for the Americans. It was so bad, they should be considering themselves lucky they got the victory. Caitlin Clark was no exception either, as the Indiana Fever star had arguably the worst outing in her basketball career.

Reports indicate that the 24-year-old guard ended the day failing to hit any of her six shot attempts, according to ESPN Insights. She managed to make just one free-throw, finishing the contest with just one point. It’s said that Clark has never failed to make a single field goal attempt throughout her time in the WNBA and college.

“Caitlin Clark went 0-6 for 1 point in the United States’ 3-point win over Italy at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Sunday,” ESPN Insights posted. “She has never gone 0-for in a WNBA or collegiate game.”

Her teammates weren’t any better. ESPN Insights also shared that between Clark, Kahleah Cooper, and Breanna Stewart, they combined for one made field goal out of 19 attempts, with Stewart being the only one to make her shot. That’s three of the WNBA’s elite scorers providing no offense for Team USA in the FIBA Women’s World Cup game against Italy.

“The trio of Clark, Kahleah Cooper and Breanna Stewart combined to go 1-19 in the win,” ESPN Insights continued. “Each player ranks in the Top 7 in the WNBA in scoring this season.”

Luckily, Caitlin Clark and Team USA will have a chance to redeem themselves on Monday. They are scheduled to face off against Czech Republic at 2:45 p.m. EST. It will be the final Group Phase matchup before tournament play begins on Tuesday.
