Jedd Fisch owns up to Washington Huskies issue in win vs. Washington State

Jedd Fisch knows there is plenty of work for the No. 17 Washington Huskies to do regarding their offensive issues despite taking down the Washington State Cougars on Sunday evening.

Fisch is going through the seventh season of his head coaching career, his third with the Huskies. He has led the program to back-to-back bowl game appearances in 2024 and 2025, showing improvements with more wins from the year prior.

He looks to build on the 9-4 campaign he has last year, looking forward to the team’s ceiling this season. However, the Huskies had hiccups in their home opener.

Washington only scored 10 points in the first half against its in-state rival in the Cougars, garnering criticism. They responded with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, fending off Washington State’s efforts to take control. Despite the win, Fisch is not content with the offensive quality after the game, per reporter Dave Mahler.

“I don’t like being 4/6 in the red zone. I’ll take responsibility for that,” Fisch said.

Jedd Fisch knows that expectations with be high on him and No. 17 Washington to make a case for CFP contention. They may have started the year with a win over Washington State, but it’s still a long season as the team must navigate through the ups and downs.

The Huskies’ defense was excellent as they shut down the Cougars’ attack for most of the game. They only conceded points in the fourth quarter, seeing Washington dig deep to pull away with the win.

Demond Williams Jr. had a strong all-around performance at quarterback. He completed 24 out of 35 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown while racking up seven rushes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Limar followed suit with 12 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Chris Lawson and Rashid Williams combined for seven receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown.

The No. 17 Huskies will look forward to their next matchup, remaining at home. They host the Utah State Aggies in Week 2 as kickoff commences on Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
