ESPN concocts intriguing Grizzlies’ Ja Morant trade proposals for Timberwolves, Suns

The Memphis Grizzlies have some big decisions ahead of them this offseason, recently earning the number three pick in what is expected to be a loaded 2026 NBA Draft class. Many anticipate that the Grizzlies will once again look to move point guard Ja Morant this summer after they were unable to trade him during the 2025-26 season.

Recently, ESPN concocted some trades that could see the former All-Star find a new home.

The first trade proposed would see Morant team up with Anthony Edwards on the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the Grizzlies receiving Julius Randle, Terrence Shannon Jr., and Joan Beringer in return. The fit with Randle in Memphis might be confounding, especially since many project the Grizzlies to take fellow power forward Cam Boozer with their number three pick, and will want to get him as many minutes as possible.

However, Shannon is an intriguing young player who fits the Grizzlies’ new timeline.

ESPN also floated the idea of a trade with the Phoenix Suns, with Memphis bringing back Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neal, Haywood Highsmith, Jamaree Bouyea, and two future second-round picks.

This would ultimately amount to essentially a salary dump for the Grizzlies, who might in turn see if they could get anything back for Allen, O’Neal, or Highsmith, each of whom is a veteran wings who theoretically could provide value to a playoff contender.

Clearly, Morant’s price has dipped dramatically since his peak days with the Grizzlies, as the league takes notice of his decline in play and tends to move off of smaller point guards as a whole.

It remains to be seen if the point guard will be in a new home before the 2026-27 NBA season kicks off.
