The Raiders rookie WR who’s pushing to become Fernando Mendoza’s best friend
The Las Vegas Raiders already have a “killer” weapon aiming to catapult quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza’s back shoulder throw is what can make him elite as analysts have stated. But he needs a wide receiver to make it happen following the Houston Texans game, which is how Malik Benson enters the picture.
Benson himself is aiming for another title: Mendoza’s best friend, at least on the football field.
Cornerback Eric Stokes sees it himself out of the past Oregon star.
“You can just see he’s being important to the team. Even from the start of training camp with him, just him being a vertical threat. But now he’s able to do intermediate routes,” Stokes shared via Raiders insider Ryan McFadden Sunday.
Benson is showing a cerebral side too when it comes to compartmentalizing the offense, per Stokes.
“He’s able to break it down,” Stokes said.
Finally, Stokes dropped this big revelation bound to catch the attention of Oregon fans following the Raiders this season.
“He’s gonna be one of the guys we’re gonna lean on in the future,” Stokes said.
Benson certainly can come in handy following a rigid Week 2 NFL Preseason performance from Mendoza. The top overall pick threw a costly pick six against the Texans that placed the Raiders in a deep hole. Vegas ended up winning the contest 22-20, but the talk centered on Mendoza’s mistakes.
Furthermore, the Raiders have drawn scrutiny over the wideout room. Many pundits believe this a room that lacks star power. So that’s another dilemma the franchise faces. But Benson appears to be easing those concerns with how he’s attacking his work ethic.
