Dan Orlovsky urges Falcons to muck up QB picture even more with Rams trade

On Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons continued their preseason slate with an impressive 34-6 win over the Indianapolis Colts on the road. The hero of this game was quarterback Jack Strand, who raised eyebrows with 212 passing yards on 12/17 completions, along with a touchdown and no interceptions.

The impressive performance caused some to wonder whether the Falcons might consider keeping four quarterbacks on their roster heading into the new season, instead of risking losing Strand for nothing, and recently, former NFL QB and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky weighed in on what he thinks Atlanta should do at the position.

“The @AtlantaFalcons should try and trade a late pick for Stetson Bennett,” noted Orlovsky on X, formerly Twitter.

Such a move with the Los Angeles Rams would certainly appease a large segment of the Falcons’ fanbase who also support the Georgia Bulldogs, the team that Bennett led to two national championships earlier in the decade.

Bennett has yet to appear in a regular season game with the Rams in the NFL, but has had some strong moments during the preseason, including this year.

Meanwhile, backup quarterback would seem to be one of the few positions where Atlanta already has a good amount of depth, with Strand potentially forcing the team’s hand at keeping four QB’s on the roster this year, with the alternative being to demote him to the practice squad and risk having him picked up by another organization and blossoming there.

There is still plenty of question about the health of Michael Penix Jr. and the viability of Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s starter, but clearly, Atlanta is keeping all options on the table ahead of the new season, which begins on September 13.
