Luke Littler in bid to make darts history after skipping 26 straight events

Luke Littler will finally feature in the Players Championship this week having skipped every single event so far this year.

The World No.1 is going to be playing in Players Championships 27 and 28, hoping to maintain his bid for history.

Littler is on track to become the first player ever to complete a clean sweep of winning every major PDC title in a season.

So far in 2026, he has claimed glory in the PDC World Championship, Masters, UK Open, Premier League, World Cup of Darts and the World Matchplay – which he won most recently in July.

It leaves him needing to win the Players Championship, World Grand Prix, European Championship, Grand Slam of Darts, World Series, and then finally the 2027 PDC World Championship.

If he manages to find success in all of those, which of course is a huge task, the 19-year-old will write his name in the history books and achieve something even Phil Taylor didn’t manage to.

First though, to make sure it is possible, Littler has to qualify for the Players Championship Finals – and that will be tough.

Littler to begin Players Championship bid

Littler has not played in a single Players Championship event this year, so he now has limited time to reach the Finals.

Only the top 64 players in the competition’s Order of Merit will make it through and have a chance to lift the title.

But Littler is going to start on £0 in winnings as he has not featured at all, so he faces some hard work to qualify, with just seven events remaining on the schedule.

He currently sits £25,500 off 64th place in the Order of Merit, however, a single event win would hand him £15,000 alone.

£10,000 gets handed to the runner-up, so Littler will feel he needs to at least reach the final in multiple of the remaining events.

Littler’s bid for qualification starts in Leicester and he will be in action from Tuesday to Wednesday.

What has Littler said on the clean sweep?

Speaking in July, Littler made it evident that he’s well aware of the potential historic clean sweep that he’s dreaming of.

“Obviously there have been crucial moments in tournaments that I’ve gone on to win where, in the first round, players have missed one dart at double to beat me,” he said.

“Then I go on to win the game. Sometimes it can get really, really close. Last-leg deciders, winning by two clear legs.

“Everyone knows I’ve got to go to the Leicester ProTours. The next one to look for is the World Series in Amsterdam.

“If I win that, then it’s Monday and Tuesday in Den Bosch for more ProTours. We’re looking further into it.

“The clean sweep is definitely on.”
