Tottenham warned over transfer decsion after ‘scary’ Brentford defeat
Tottenham have been told to make a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before the transfer window closes.
That’s the opinion of former Villan Tony Cascarino who believes Antonin Kinsky is not good enough to be the long-term replacement for Guglielmo Vicario.

Kinsky has had a rollercoaster ride on the way to becoming Spurs’ new No.1 under Roberto De Zerbi.
The calamitous Vicario has left the club to join Juventus on loan this season, a move that comes after the Italians failed to get a deal done for Martinez.
Vicario suffered a severe downturn in form and missed the end of last season with a hernia.
That saw Kinsky step-up in his place after signing in January 2025.
His initial foray into the first-team was fine in their Europa League winning campaign.
However, as Tottenham entered a tailspin last season Kinsky was thrown into a Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid and was substituted after just 17 minutes having conceded three goals.
The move, by then-manager Igor Tudor, drew plenty of criticism but the Czech goalkeeper bounced back impressively.
Key saves against Wolves, Leeds, and Everton were vital in saving Spurs from relegation.
Instead of a replacement being signed for Vicario, Kinsky was handed a new contract and the starting role ahead of free transfer signing Martin Dubravka.
In the 3-0 opening game defeat to Brentford, though, it wasn’t a vintage performance with Cascarino believing him to be at fault for the second goal, scored by Vitaly Janelt.

Kinsky could only parry a Mathias Jensen strike straight into the path of the German to stab home.
He wasn’t the only poor performer with Lucas Bergvall, who had previously been agitating for a summer transfer, struggling before being substituted at half-time.
But Cascarino couldn’t believe what he saw from both Tottenham and their goalkeeper, reckoning it’s a mistake not to sign a new shot-stopper.
“Watching them yesterday was scary,” he said on talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“The goalkeeper, Kinsky, for the second goal. You cannot do that. And again I’m moaning all morning. I will be because I’m watching goalkeepers who can’t catch the ball.
“Now, it was an effort that, okay, he could palm it round the post or whatever. But it’s also to me an effort that goalkeepers used to catch.”
Asked if Kinsky should remain in the No.1 role this season, he replied: “No. I thought they needed a new goalkeeper. And if they could get Emiliano Martinez out of Aston Villa, because he looks like he could go, I’d take him. An experienced goalkeeper, a lot more solid.

“I wasn’t a fan of Guglielmo Vicario and it’s been a tough period for Spurs but Kinsky doesn’t look like an answer to me. You know when he’s doing things like that.
“We’ve all had bad games. I’ve had plenty of them in my career but when you do certain things, which is a simple catch for me, that ends up making it 2-0 for Vitaly Janelt, who’s on the end of that.
“He’s basically set up Janelt to just knock it in the back of the net.”
