Deion Sanders is the latest to hammer Texas Tech football’s Brendan Sorsby debacle

As the conversation around the Texas Tech football team surrounds Brendan Sorsby and a state judge’s ruling on being eligible to play in the 2026 season, it has sparked many people’s opinions. With Texas Tech football quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the limelight, the latest to give his opinion was Colorado Buffaloes head coach and former player, Deion Sanders.

Speaking to The Associated Press in an interview that was conducted before the most recent court ruling on Sorsby, Sanders would speak on why there is an innate problem with what the quarterback did when it comes to his gambling scandal. The scandal, which includes thousands of bets placed.

“Somebody’s gambling on a sport they’re playing? You don’t think something’s wrong with that?” Sanders said, via ESPN. “Just say that to yourself: This guy on my team is gambling on the sport, in the competition, that we’re about to go out there and have. Something’s wrong with that.”

“The game is still the game,” Sanders continued when talking about how money has surrounded the game with NIL, transfer portal, etc. “The game is just positioned differently. Money’s involved, and any time money’s involved, people tend to migrate to what they think they can get out of it, instead of what they could put into it — and that’s unfortunate.”

More on Texas Tech football’s Brendan Sorsby

The latest from the Texas Tech football story with Sorsby is that the Big 12 conference wants to sanction the school for the decision on the quarterback based on a recent filing of a complaint, as reported by Steve Samra of On3 Sports,

“The filing, which was submitted in the Northern District of Texas, seeks declaratory judgment and a preliminary injunction that would allow the Big 12 to enforce its bylaws regarding Texas Tech’s intention to play the quarterback during the 2026 season,” Samra wrote.

“Instead, the Big 12 is asking a federal judge to allow the league to discipline Texas Tech without interference from Paxton’s office,” Samra continued on Texas Tech’s view.

It remains to be seen how the situation with the Red Raiders and Sorsby develops as time goes on.
