Cowboys’ Jalen Thompson drops perfect response when asked who won Saints fights

The Dallas Cowboys cannot afford to reflect deeply on their recent history and harp on the “chokers narrative” that continues to follow them in the playoffs. They have to move with an overwhelming amount of self-belief, otherwise this group has little hope of changing the franchise’s trajectory. However, there are times when confidence intersects with delusion. Jalen Thompson may have crossed this path on Tuesday.

Several fights broke out during a joint practice between Dallas and New Orleans Saints, and the Cowboys’ new safety was at the center of the most viral moment of the day. And to be clear, that is not a good thing whatsoever.

Saints undrafted wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner, son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, hit a German suplex on Thompson during a heated confrontation, via the Wrestle Ops X account. The 28-year-old did not act like a vanquished warrior afterwards, though. Quite the contrary.

When asked if the Cowboys won the training camp brawls, Thompson had an answer that is sure to raise eyebrows and produce some chuckles.

“Of course we did,” he said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Come on now.” Perhaps Dallas was triumphant, but this player does not seem like the right person to declare victory for his side.

Jalen Thompson entered the fray after Rechsteiner and third-year cornerback Caelen Carson got into a skirmish. He is expected to be an effective leader in the secondary after signing a three-year, $33 million contract in free agency, so it is no surprise that the former Washington State star took it upon himself to help a young teammate. No good deed goes unpunished, however.

Thompson might be sore in the morning, and he will be mocked for a bit, but rest assured, his pride remains well intact. The longtime Arizona Cardinals defensive back is not speaking timidly or admitting defeat. He is hyping up his squad.

Although his latest soundbite will make eyes roll, Thompson is expressing the type of conviction the Cowboys will need to embody if they are going to prevail on Sundays.
