Packers’ Jordan Love admits he’s ready to get out of preseason games
It’s safe to say that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is not a fan of preseason games. At Packers training camp on Tuesday, Love explained his preseason philosophy, and it does not involve taking any hits ahead of Week 1.
“No, I am ready to get out of the games, for sure. I have been in some preseason games where things happened. You may get hit, take a wrong hit, and now you are out for camp, like last year,” Love told reporters. “I was definitely glad to get in, get out, be healthy, not take any hits. That’s always the goal.”

Love did play in the Packers’ 2026 preseason opener, which turned into a 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. And he absolutely stuck to his get-in, get-out, don’t-get-hit strategy, as he was on the field for just nine plays. The 2020 first-round pick went 3-of-5 for 18 yards
The Packers QB not wanting to take hits makes a lot of sense, as he hasn’t been the most durable signal-caller. Unlike his two predecessors, Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, who played almost every snap of their Packers starting careers (save for Rodgers’ broken clavicle and collar bone in 2013 and 2017), Love has only gone the distance once in his three starting seasons.
With Love’s hatred of the preseason, there is a good chance he doesn’t play again as the Packers take on the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals. The next time the cheeseheads may see their starting QB is in Week 1, when the Packers travel to Minneapolis to face their NFC North foe, the Minnesota Vikings.
