Chiefs insider spits hot fire on Rashee Rice ’embarrassing’ teammates who stood up for him
Recently, it was announced that Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Rashee Rice had violated his probation due to a failed drug test and was given 30 days in jail as a result. The original sentence stemmed from a 2024 arrest following a hit and run incident and Dallas, and now, Rice will miss some of the Chiefs‘ offseason program due to the jail time.
Now, Chiefs insider Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star has gone scorched earth on both Rice and his Chiefs teammates who supported him during his suspension last year, which spanned the first six games of the season.
“The legal system offered him a forgiving path to a second chance, but he’s used it to make those who stood by him look foolish. He embarrassed his teammates, who didn’t need the assist after wearing “Free 4” T-shirts, as though Rice mimicked some sort of wrongfully accused figure to be revered,” noted McDowell.
“They’ll wear that image for a while longer now. They threw their support behind someone who admitted to felony charges. And then he threw them aside, all for the sake of a high.”
Indeed, several members of the Chiefs were seen wearing “Free 4” shirts during warmups last year, referencing Rice’s suspension for the incident. Rice is clearly the most talented wide receiver on the team, but his off-the-field issues have proven to make him unreliable at best over the last couple of years, which could prompt the team to look to add more depth at the wide receiver position as the offseason continues.
In any case, the Chiefs’ 2026 season is set to kick off in early September against the Denver Broncos.
